Capacity Operations Manager

Location: Plymouth, MN

Position Summary:

The Capacity Operations Manager position is a multi-functional job that requires candidates to possess high problem-solving ability, quick negotiating, decision-making ability, exceptional people skills, and an excellent attitude for success. The main responsibilities of this position are focus on handling the Full and Partial Truckload Logistics needs of customers through working with third party carriers and our customers. Drives performance of carrier procurement to move customer freight quick and efficiently through relationship building with outside carriers for the highest margin possible. Works closely with sales/customer teams, internal operations, and support teams to resolve supply chain issues, strategic solution design, growth plan, and data reporting. The Capacity Operations Manager will take the lead in expanding our truckload brokerage team by taking an active part in the day to day operation and coaching team members in successful processes and methods.



  • Negotiate shipping rates with third party carrier partners to assure highest margin possible for hauling shipments
  • Dispatch load assignments and assist drivers with questions and needs regarding the shipment
  • Track all orders to ensure on-time delivery and performance is met
  • Ensure all paperwork are following shipments and turned in from carriers in a timely manner
  • Assist in tracking KPI and Variance deliverables using TMS
  • Ensure loads are invoiced with proper backup in a timely manner
  • Establish long term carrier relationships
  • Ensure customer expectations are met
  • Keep our promises and avoid surprises
  • Negotiate pricing and service level agreements with clients
  • Provide alternative solutions for customers
  • Make sure account margin expectations are met on each move
  • Negotiate the best carrier cost for each load
  • Suggest improvements to increase margins
  • Grow truckload brokerage revenue by actively pursuing new opportunities
  • Strategically align and assign carriers to customers to improve profitability
  • Ownership of and accountability to revenue projections for individual accounts and complete portfolio
  • Create Standard Operating Procedures
  • Coach team members on carrier negotiation, profitability improvement and customer service



  • +3 years of industry specific experience with logistics and carrier procurement
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Professional – and focused on operational excellence and excellent customer service
  • Excellent operational finance skills (rate development, transportation pricing, operating statements)
  • Experience negotiating customer contracts and pricing
  • Experience working with DAT,, and knowledge of current market conditions
  • Demonstrated ability closing business and organic growth of existing accounts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).A self-motivator and a self-learner with a strong drive
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
